A PERSONALISED QUESTIONAIRE FOR OUR TARGET AUDIENCE
in this post i will be talking about the questionaire that we have created to narrow down our searches when finding our exact target audience, the reason we have chose to do a questionaire to find our target audience is because it is personal to the person answering it so they will be honest and give their exact opinions on what they will look for in a music video. Here are the questions that we created to go on our questionaire.
OUR GROUPS MOODBOARD FROM A BRAINSTORMING SESSION
In our last media lesson our group constructed a mind map what states what we look to achieve and how to get to achieve these things, we decided on-
Also as a group outside of lessons we each gathered different images around a different topic and we then put all of them images into a moos board, it was my job to find the location photos, here is this mood board.

RELATED SONG AND RELATED ARTIST(VIDEO)
RELATED ARTIST AND VIDEO-The first artist who we have taken as inspiration from for our music video are the artist 'the Chainsmokers', I have talked about the Chainsmokers song closer earlier on in the blog but it seems that all of their videos follow the themes of relationships, the sing 'Paris' by the Chainsmokers is on that follows the trend of relationships and has a strong narrative that focuses purely on a stereotypical perfect relationship which is hard to represent, we also took another idea for our video after watching another Chainsmokers song which is called closer, we decided to use lyrics over the top of our video, we used the Chainsmokers as an example because it was one of the biggest videos of the year and now they are well known for the lyric video.
PARIS- ( RELATIONSHIPS)
RELATED SONG- The song that we have chosen as an inspiration is Lewis Capaldis 'Bruises', the reason we have chosen this song as an inspiration is because it was our original choice for our song but once we had discussed and found out exactly what theme and what narrative we were going to use we found that our second choice fitted better with our theme, the reason we originally chose this is because it is a great song to represent a broken relationship and there is no music video for the song which means there is a gap in the market for the video, but we were to quick to decide on the song, if you compare the song we are using to this one even though it is more upbeat but the meaning behind the lyrics are the same and both paint a image of an upside down relationship.

OUR FINAL DECISION ON THE SONG FOR OUR VIDEO
In this post i will be talking about the song we have chosen to do our music video on and why we have chosen this, the song we have chosen is 'i hate u, i love u' by gnash (featuring olivia o'brien). here is the song and the existing music video that goes with it.
SONG LYRICS- here are thew song lyrics for 'i hate u, i love u'
our groups initial ideas of the song is that it has a deep meaning and it is an enjoyabvle song to liosten too as it contains amazing raw vocals that support the deaper meaning of the raps that the song is based around, the way the raps are split up by the singing of Olivia O'brien shows the back and forth arguments from both sides of the relationship. the music video for this video in my opinion is weak, i think that a song with a meaning as deap as this song has deserves a strong video to back up the meaningfull lyrics of a torn relationship, to back up these lyrics would be our strong narrative which the existing video doesnt provide.
a video that already exists that we are going to use as an example is the lyric video for 'closer' by the chainsmokers because it shows the perfect relationship presenting how a perfect relationshiop should be, also our group were thinking about using lyrics over our video to add another effect which the chainsmokers use perfectly, here is this video.

LIST OF POTENTIAL SONGS
In this post i will be showing you the songs that me and my group have chose as potential songs to chose for our music video, we decided that each of us would chose 2 songs each and say why we chose these songs on our own blogs, here is a photo of the songs that we have chosen.

here is a photo of the reasons why i chose the songs that i wanted to create a music video for.

ANALYSIS OF LIGHTING IN DIFFERENT MUSIC VIDEOS
In this post I will be looking at 4 different music videos and the types of lighting that they use. The first video is panic at the discos 'death of a bachelor' the lighting in this video uses the spotlight effect, it is a black and white video so instead of the use of colour it uses the lights as the focal point for the video, throughout the whole video there is a spotlight on Brendon Urie to show his importance in the music video, in the background there are large stage lights flashing on him to show his lonesome stature.

The second video I will be looking at is my chemical romances 'famous last words' the lighting in this video is unique as it uses the mix of both natural and man made light, there is a large spotlight over the top of the band shining down on them but the main point of the lighting is dark background with the flames creating a darker affect, the flames symbolise my chemical romance because they are all about starting things that shouldn't happen and for them to have the flames in their siluette is iconic.

Then, the next video I will be looking at is panic at the discos piano video of 'this is gospel', I have chosen this video because it uses purely raw natural light, it is one of the only videos that uses this technique and it has payed off, it is hard to plan to use sunlight as the main light to your video because of how easily the weather can change so it must've been hard to judge the right day which makes it a risky source of light.

ANDREW GODWINS THEORY OF MUSIC VIDEOS AND PROOF OF THESE TECHNIQUES
Andrew godwins is a very well known theorist of media and his theory states that a music video should have 5 key aspects,
Relationship between the song and visuals, narrative and performance of the song, thought through beat( seeing what the lyrics mean in your head), star image(protagonist).
The part of godwins theory I will be focusing on is his relationship between the music and visuals, this is where a video would be categorised into one of three groups on how they promote a song, illustrate, disjuncture and amplify.
If the relationship is illustrate, it uses certain shots and images to conclude the genre and the meaning of their song, an example of this relationship would be Ed Sheran's A-team where the video matches the lyrics of him following the hard life of a women who hasn't had the bed life and does whatever she can to get money.

When a music video is distjuncture it completely ignores the meaning of the song in the video and it is usually to show stars or protagonist to attract more views and audiences, an example of a song that's video does this is Panic at the disco's 'girls/girls/boys' where whole 3 minutes of the video is close ups and profile shots of a topless Brendon Urie to attract their humungous female fan base, they completely ignored the meaning of the song and just used his popularity to rely on the views.

Finally, if the relationship between music and visuals is amplify, this is where the shots are repeated or very similar that they are drummed into your head and you remember this video continuing with the music, a very well known video that uses this technique is X ambassadors 'renegades' where the whole video is someone on their own continuously skateboarding through streets like a renegade would do as he is on his own and doing things differently to others.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF MUSIC VIDEOS
An example of a early day music video is 'st Louise blues' by Bessie smith in 1929, for that period of time and the stage of technology that they were at, it is incredible that they were able to create a music video out of that technology.

Even though it was over 10 years later another very well known early music video was Walt disneys fantasia that was released in 1940, this is an iconic early music video because it was based around famous pieces of classical music.

In the 1970s the 'modern era'of music videos was where some of the most prolific artists started their first music videos and began to make a name for themselves through these videos, a well known example of this would be queens 'bohemian rhapsody' which everyone has heard of but the music video was the first of its kind, queen decided to create the first music video which was a promo video at the same time.

When you think of music videos MTV is the first thing that comes to your head and it first aired on TV in 1981, the first video to be played was the bugles 'video killed by radio star' 36 years ago and still to this day it is where people go to watch premieres of music videos from our current generation, although they play new music they are the only music channel to keep hold of their roots and continuously play songs from all generations to attract all types of audiences.

CODES AND CONVENTIONS OF A MUSIC VIDEO
To be able to construct a music video you need different techniques which are the codes and conventions, there are two types of codes and conventions symbolic and technical. The technical codes and conventions are techniques that are used like the types of shots, choice of lighting the speed of editing and the genre.
Secondly the symbolic techniques are techniques beyond what you can see like body language, facial expressions the the mise en scene. The reason why codes and conventions are used is because it creates a structure when creating the video and it helps the audience recognise the genre through the codes you are using.
The way the camera is used is crucial because without the correct camera shots the video would not have a good impact, the camera shots come from using the correct angles the the correct movement because the shots you use determines what type of music video you are going for, if the music you have chosen is quick paced the camera movement would have to be quick to match the song otherwise it would be out of proportion.

When the merge between the music and the shots you have to chosen to use takes place the editing has to be on top form as you need to meet the pace of the music with the editing by using fast cut shots, in addition this the editing process is where everything gets finalised so you can see if anything needs to change or if your missing something, it also gives you the power to adjust things at the click of a button by manipulating the shots.

Finally, the mis en Scene of a music video is where everything behind the scenes takes place in order for the music video to have a professional effect, its focuses on the lighting, props, costumes and makeup, location and colour. These are the things that people forget are important in a music video but without them the video would be missing affects.

FIRST MEDIA LESSON BACK AT SCHOOL
In this post I will be talking about what we did in our first media lesson of the year, firstly we solidified who was in what group, and my group is the same as last year so I am used to working with them and we already know our strengths, in my group I have Rhys and Oliver, then once we decided on the groups we discussed some music videos we had seen in the summer and if they inspired us, we were then told to find the perfect song to base around our music video.
